Synasthesia is a well, condition which unites the senses, to cut a long story short, so two or three of the five main senses, smell, taste, touch, hearing and sight can sometimes work together in what can seem like to people who don't have synasthesia, quite a peculiar way.
I didn't realise I actually had something else besides the condition which made me lose my sight and some of my hearing, until very recently, back in Janyary. I was watching the last episode in this year's Child Of Our Time series. This featured a couple of people who had something called Synasthesia, and it clicked. From about the age of ten months, I thought it was strange that, when listening to music, I associated each note or chord with a smell, taste, texture or even certain foods and drinks and colours when I could see light and colour, as I've always been qquite a musical person. I could even say certain letters looked like colours, for example A is pink, B is blue, numbers 3 and 9 are green and black, for people can associate letters and numbers with colour. I myself probably have quite a rampant form of the condition, as I can listen to a piece of music, and by the end of it, have made quite a long list of just anything that pops in to my head if the various chords and keys remind me of something. There's a whole wealth of information on Synasthesia on the web, which also lies, because it says only people who have all their senses intact, have it. I think I'll have to prove them wrong. if you type it in to Google as I did last night, but I wondered if anyone else thinks they have it, here on The Zone. I'd love to hear all about it.
